With another successful Arizona Beer Week in the books, Mother Road’s brewers are hitting the road next weekend to be part of one of the industry’s most creative festivals.
They’re headed to Denver, Colorado for the third annual Collaboration Festival on March 19. The fest features more than 75 beers, all the product of collaborations between two or more breweries, at least one of which must be based in Colorado and a member of the Colorado Brewer’s Guild. Last year it was declared “America’s most creative beer fest” by Food & Wine Magazine.
The other neat part? Every beer that will be poured has been brewed specifically for the festival.
For this year’s event, Mother Road paired up with Denver-based Baere Brewing Company to brew “Mother Baere,” a four-grain Saison. The beer was brewed with barley and rye from Colorado Malting Co. and British oats and Sonoran white wheat from Arizona’s Hayden Flour Mills. The beer was first fermented in stainless steel with a French saison yeast strain. It was then racked into Law’s Rye Whiskey barrels for a secondary fermentation with Brettanomyces.
The final product has aromas of pineapple and freshly peeled grapefruit, starting slightly fruity and quickly moving into an oaky deep rye spice with a dry finish.
Brewers from Mother Road and Baere squeezed in the brew during the Great American Beer Festival, held in Denver in September.
Representing Mother Road at the Collaboration Festival will be Brewers John-Paul Valdez and Jordan Gregory along with Production Manager Campbell Morrissy. This year’s event will feature 150 breweries from five countries and 21 states, including Avery, Ballast Point and New Belgium. Mother Road is the only participating brewery from Arizona.
“The collab fest is one of the most unique festivals in the U.S. and is held in one of the best beer cities in the world,” Morrissy said. “It is a true honor to be a part of it and be able to represent the Arizona brewing scene.”
