After debates ensued over the lack of craft beer at Yankee Stadium’s “craft beer” stand, there has been an increase of demand for beer made by America’s small and independent craft brewers at stadiums across the country.
Sun King Brewery of Indianapolis, Ind., has teamed up with Lucas Oil Stadium to provide fresh, local beer for events held there, including Indianapolis Colts’ games. Now Indy fans can cheer on their home team while enjoying Sun King’s Sunlight Cream Ale, Wee Mac Scottish Ale and Osiris Pale Ale.
This selection will be available on draft at two “Backyard Brew” locations near sections 109 and 132 on the main concourse. Cans will also be available at various beer stands, Club Level bars, cantinas, grills and snack locations throughout the stadium.
“Our goal from the beginning has been to become Indianapolis’ beer,” said Dave Colt, Sun King owner and head brewer. “With our beer now available at every major sports venue in the city, it feels like we are realizing a dream!
The introduction of Sun King beer to Lucas Oil Stadium is a true win for Indiana craft beer fans, and step in the right direction for the future of craft beer at American sporting events
“We’re excited to give sports fans access to craft beer and hope that craft beer lovers will seek it out at the stadium,” said Clay Robinson, Sun King co-owner and brewer. “We also hope that they will share their love and encourage others who may not have had our beer to give it a try. Stadiums can be a tough sell because so many people are used to going in and getting a beer at the stand next to their seats, so they may not even know it [Sun King beer] is available. Our job is to get the word out and direct them to our beer so that they can help spread the word.”
Hopefully craft beer lovers begin to spread the word, and this is a continued trend in the craft beer movement.
Thomas Appel’s love for craft beer began after visiting a micro brewery at the end of the world in the Chilean Patagonia. He currently lives in the center of the beer world in Boulder, Colorado, where he is the intern for the craft beer program and a recent graduate from the University of Colorado. A native of the Sunshine State, Thomas can be found enjoying craft beer while getting lost on the beautiful rivers of Colorado!
