Town Council to consider economic development agreement on Monday, August 18
FISHERS, Ind. – The Town Council will consider an economic development agreement tonight that would bring Indiana’s second-largest brewery to Fishers. If approved, Sun King Brewery will build its second craft brewery on 12.76 acres located at the southeast corner of Kincaid Dr. and Park Central Dr., bringing an estimated $19.5 million in regional economic impact and 27,000 visitors to Sun King’s proposed facility and the Fishers community. Fishers has committed to capture property tax for 25 years, estimated at $100,000 annually, to help offset capital costs and to fund surrounding public infrastructure.
“Sun King embodies the vibrant, entrepreneurial spirit that Fishers fosters throughout the community,” said Town Manager Scott Fadness. “The expansion into Fishers not only creates a new destination for our community, but also aligns with our mission to create an environment in which high-growth, high-potential companies compete and thrive.”
Sun King opened its doors in downtown Indianapolis in 2009 and has expanded its capacity by eight times since then. The brewery is expected to produce more than 28,000 barrels of beer in 2014 and needs to expand in order to continue to grow. “Fishers is the perfect community for our second brewery,” explained Sun King President Omar Robinson. “The town is excited about having us, and we can’t wait to produce our fresh local beer even closer to the many north-side residents who already enjoy Sun King, as well as introduce our beer to a new community. Sun King sells more craft beer in Indiana than any other Indiana brewery, and this new brewery will allow us to continue to meet the demand for our beer.”
The new brewery will be purpose-built to accommodate future growth, and the tasting room will be large enough to hold hundreds of thirsty Hoosiers. Sun King will continue to brew beer in the current brewery at 135 North College Ave. in Indianapolis, and both breweries will offer Sun King’s house lineup of Sunlight Cream Ale, Osiris Pale Ale and Wee Mac Scottish-style Ale, as well as countless seasonal and specialty beers.
Thompson Thrift will coordinate and work with the Town of Fishers to cause a bike and running path to be installed along Kincaid Drive, connecting 106th Street to the new brewery, which will enhance Fisher’s trail system and provide residents with easy access to Sun King.
