Squatters Craft Beers – Releases Takeout Rye IPA and Wellied Irish Stout

Share Post

Salt Lake City, Utah) February 9, 2015 – Squatters Craft Beers adds to their seasonal lineup with two new beers: Takeout Rye IPA, and Wellied Irish Stout, available during the icy months of winter.

TAKEOUT RYE IPA

Takeout is a spicy, hop-forward winter India Pale Ale made with rye. “IPA has been my favorite beer style for decades, and I love the flavor characteristics of rye. So for me, Takeout IPA is a match made in beer heaven”, expresses Peter Cole, Squatters founder. “It has a lovely malt, hop balance and the spicy, almost peppery aromatics give my tonsils the most delightful thrashing as it makes its way toward its final resting place.”

The rye, dark wheat malt and other specialty malts show off a nice spicy rye character, and is dry hopped with Zythos and Calypso hops producing a floral, fruit aroma. Surprisingly, Utah likes craft beer and knockin’ rocks, with growing leagues in Park City, Salt Lake, Ogden and Logan. “After a strenuous evening of curling with my English mate Simon, we’re ready to lash a few Takeout IPA’s… the first one generally doesn’t even touch the sides!” laughs Peter. “We like to say – throw your broom down and hammer one.”

WELLIED IRISH STOUT

Squatters has been marching with the Hibernian Society of Utah, in Salt Lake City’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade since 1992. “Irish stouts have always flowed from the taps in our pubs over the years on St. Patrick’s Day, so we thought it was time to bottle the tradition”, expresses Brewmaster Dan Burick.

“Our entire brew house crew helped create Wellied; we even had them be our models in the photograph for our packaging, yes in their boots getting a bit wellied” smirks Burick. (Wellied is Irish slang, referring to a lovely toasted state.) Wellied is an easy-drinking session dry Irish stout that is rich, dark and complex with pronounced roasted barley characteristics. “We used a unique acidulated malt that has a pleasant tart finish,” Burick explains, “which is smoothed out by flaked barley. This beer is a boots up tradition!”
