GADSDEN, Ala. – Back Forty Beer Co.’s newest seasonal release, Trade Day Cuban Coffee Stout, is a testament that beer and coffee bring people together.
Trade Day, Back Forty’s first production release stout, spent three years in the test-batch phase to perfect the smooth, earthy tones and bold coffee notes that make this stout so unique. Made with five different grains and roasted barley, ground Cuban coffee is added to the beer post-fermentation to provide a balanced coffee taste.
“The ‘Trade Day’ name is a nod to the old Southern tradition of gathering at the crossroads to buy and sell goods of all kinds, and also pays tribute to the recent efforts by the United States to reinstate trade with our Cuban neighbors,” said Back Forty COO Tripp Collins. “Back Forty is committed to celebrating Alabama cultural traditions that have been bringing people together for generations, and we think that Trade Day Cuban Coffee Stout does just that.”
For centuries stouts have traditionally been paired with local oysters as a cold weather delicacy. Continuing that tradition, Trade Day Cuban Coffee Stout pairs perfectly with fresh Alabama oysters, which is why Back Forty includes an “Alabama Oysters” seal to the food pairing suggestions on every Trade Day label.
“The oysters’ salty and buttery flavor profile really compliment the rich flavors of the stout, making for a well-rounded flavor combination,” said Collins. “Highlighting local oysters on the Trade Day food pairings is our way of saying ‘thank you’ to our local Alabama farmers, their world class products, and dedication to their craft.”
While developing Trade Day’s unique recipe, Back Forty visited the Auburn University Shellfish Laboratory to learn more about Alabama oyster farmers and experience the process farming the oysters in our local waters to serving them at the best restaurants and raw bars.
“Alabama’s oyster farmers put a great deal of pride in what they do. We are excited to partner with Back Forty who puts the same passion into their beer,” said Bill Walton, associate professor at Auburn University School of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Aquatic Sciences. “When you eat an Alabama oyster or drink a Back Forty beer, it’s a reflection of the hard work and dedication that goes into producing world-class products that are putting our state on the map.”
Trade Day is now available for a limited time throughout fall and winter in 12-ounce glass bottles and on draft in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi and Tennessee markets.
