This year Southern Living Magazine celebrates a landmark 50-year anniversary, and we are delighted that they are joining us in Nashville for the festivities! When Editor Sid Evans inquired about a craft beer anniversary collaboration with Tennessee Brew Works, we felt very honored.
Our brewery officially opened in August 2013 as my friends and I, with the blessing of some wonderful supporters, realized our dream of creating Tennessee craft beer for a living. As a Southern brewery, Tennessee Brew Works takes great pride in our brews, and through them, the relationship with our local community, music, food and the culture of our home.
For the Southern Living beer collaboration, we wanted something special that adheres to our mantra of utilizing the regional flavors whenever possible, celebrates Tennessee culture and gives the palate of the food and wine aficionado something to really appreciate. When our friends from Queen Bee Pollinators shared some tasty Wildflower and Sourwood honeys from Strange Honey Farm (Del Rio, Tennessee), we instantly knew it should be the foundation for this beer recipe. Our head brewer, Matt Simpson, gains additional inspiration not just from his 22-years of experience and great accomplishments as a professional brewer, but through collaboration with our taproom Chef Jay Mitchell and Certified Ciceroneâ Adam Speyer. As Matt always says, “brewing is a team sport.” Together they carefully designed this beer using a beautiful Belgian Abbey yeast, adding a floral, aromatic hop profile and commingling a blend of the locally sourced Wildflower and Sourwood honeys.
Collectively, we present the “Wildwood Flower” honey blonde ale. Tasty, approachable, with subtle complexity, one may sip and enjoy this ale independently, but it will also serve to complement a fine meal.
We are very excited to celebrate Southern Living Magazine’s 50th anniversary alongside the Visit Music City team this September! We are a small and hard-working company and feel very honored to collaborate with such an esteemed organization on this momentous occasion. But most of all, we look forward to sharing our “Wildwood Flower” honey blonde craft beer with you!
Cheers! Christian Spears Founder & President Tennessee Brew Works
