Brewery brings in new brewing equipment that will triple fermentation capacity
Denver, CO (September 12, 2016) – After expanding the draft system earlier this year, Fiction Beer Company is excited to announce the acquisition of three 14-barrel fermenters, one 21-barrel fermenter and one 15-barrel Hoover tank. The new equipment will allow Fiction to triple its fermentation capacity, producing an expected 1,500 barrels in 2017.
“Once we increased the number of taps in the brewery, it quickly became apparent that we did not have the ability to keep them pouring at all times,” said Fiction founder and headbrewer, Ryan Kilpatrick. “The question every brewery looks forward to facing of ‘when will we need to increase production’ quickly turned to ‘how can we increase production’ which required a rethinking of the brewhouse setup, a tape measure and some strong and willing volunteers.”
The new fermenters replace the 7-barrel versions and the Hoover tank will be used to further develop the brewery’s burgeoning sour program, currently on display during the once-a-month Synchronic Sour Series and with brews such as Damned Curious Business, a sour pale ale, and Twilight Superstition, a sour pumpkin ale soon to be re-released.
“While we may have lost some space in the brewhouse,” explained Kilpatrick, “I think our customers will appreciate the increased ability to keep their favorite beers on tap and to try new recipes that we’ve had on the backburner due to production limitations.”
The new tanks have been installed in the brewery and after an extensive cleaning process, brewing began last week. Fiction is currently gearing up to mark their 2nd anniversary with a weeklong celebration 9/18 – 9/24 including several rare and barrel-aged tappings (more info to come). The brewery will also unveil their latest IPA, Logic is Relative, which pays homage to New England author, John Irving, and hints at the characteristics one might expect from this latest offering.
