B the Change Media names New Belgium Brewing best in overall performance among all “Best for the World” certified B Corporations. “Best for the World” recognizes the top 10% of B Corp companies that fit rigorous standards on the B Impact Assessment of social and environmental practices, accountability, and transparency.

“This award is a great honor and helps top off an incredible year,” said New Belgium Brewing’s Director of Sustainability and Strategy, Jenn Vervier. “In 2016 New Belgium has opened a new brewery in Asheville, expanded along the east coast, and we’re celebrating 25 years as a brewery. Since day one our values have remained the same: to brew world-class beers, to be responsible stewards of the environment, and to create a work culture that is meaningful and fun. It is very gratifying to be recognized for these values we have long upheld.”

Some of the reasons New Belgium was named one of the world’s most socially and environmentally impactful businesses include:

  • New Belgium is 100% employee owned;
  • The brewery recycles, reuses, or composts 99.9% of solid waste used in manufacturing;
  • For every barrel of beer produced, New Belgium donates $1 to non-profits;
  • The brewery practices open book management.

Regarding this year’s winning companies, Bryan Welch, CEO of Be the Change Media says: “Their stories are remarkable, and their success is, too, which is perhaps the most important message: sustainability doesn’t come at the expense of profitability. The two can and do march in lockstep.”

The ‘Best for the World’ honorees include 515 companies, from 44 different industries in 20 countries.
