Asheville, NC – The League of American Bicyclists, a national bicycling and advocacy organization of nearly 20,000 members, has recognized New Belgium Brewing’s Asheville Facility with the prestigious Platinum-level Bicycle Friendly Business (BFB) certification.
“We are honored to be awarded this designation from the League,” said New Belgium Brewing’s Asheville General Manager, Jay Richardson. “Our Fort Collins facility has been recognized as a Platinum-Level Bicycle Friendly Business for many years now, we took all the things we did right for bicyclists in Fort Collins and made sure they would be implemented in the construction of our new East Coast Facility. We believe that the bicycle is man’s greatest invention, next to beer of course.”
With the announcement of 64 new and renewing BFBs across the country, New Belgium Brewing Asheville joins a growing list of 1,220 local businesses, government agencies and Fortune 500 companies leading the way to transform transportation, health, and wellness for the betterment of U.S. workers and local communities.
“Business owners and workers across the country are looking for simple, straightforward ways to build their companies, do right by their workers and customers, and contribute positively to their local communities,” says Executive Director Bill Nesper of the League of American Bicyclists. “Boosting participation in bicycling achieves all of that and more, and BFBs such as New Belgium Brewing are wonderful model of that success. We congratulate this latest class of business leaders for recognizing that one of the oldest and easiest forms of transportation still generates significant economic and societal rewards today.”
BFB requirements identify incentives, programming, and amenities proven to enable and inspire more people to ride bikes. Among those offered by New Belgium Brewing are awarding a bicycle to each coworker on their first anniversary, fix-it stations and plenty of bicycle parking for both coworker and guests, and of course, Tour de Fat which is in its 19th Season and has raised over $5 Million for bicycle advocacy non-profits across the country.
New Belgium is the longest standing Platinum Bicycle Friendly Business, having been awared this designation the first time in 2009. Last year, the 100% employee-owned brewery topped Bicycling Magazine’s list of Best Companies for Cyclists.
