Our zeal to support the revolution of craft beer—our bumper sticker phrases, rally cries and messaging—can end up confusing what is most important. The revolution is not defined by the elements of color and carbonation, it is far greater and more complex.

The discovery of yeast, innovations in kilning and the invention of refrigeration all led to the development and, ultimately, the perfection of pale-colored lagers.
