Tax Day is just around the corner—Monday, April 18 to be exact.
To those of you not rushing out the door to H&R Block or logging onto TurboTax after reading that first sentence, congratulations. You can kick back and reward yourself with a cold craft beer, while your brethren fight to get their taxes filed by Monday.
As Benjamin Franklin said, “Nothing is certain except death and taxes.” Luckily for us, there’s another certainty—the certainty that your local brewery or bottle shop is currently offering some quality craft brews! Whether you plan on drowning your empty-pocketed sorrows or celebrating a little bit of unexpected cash, here are a few Tax Day-themed brews (as described by each brewery).
Death and Taxes | Moonlight Brewing Co. | Santa Rosa, CA
A very dark yet surprisingly light-bodied lager beer, crisp and refreshing with no heaviness.
Fermentation Without Representation | Epic Brewing Co. | Salt Lake City, UT
We know, this beer is only available in the fall (it’s a theme, guys; go with it). This beer explodes with aromas of sweet spices giving way to chocolate and roasted malt. Flavors are reminiscent of fresh-cut pumpkin and chocolate and complemented by hints of clove, fresh Madagascar vanilla beans, nutmeg and allspice.
Deduction and Exemption | Taxman Brewing Co. | Bargersville, IN
Deduction: This effervescent ale showcases sweet, malty notes with hints of dark fruit, complemented by mild bitterness from classic European hops. Belgian candi sugar helps deliver a light, dry body to this dark, approachable dubbel.
Exemption: This crisp golden strong ale unites lemon, orange peel and coriander spices with flavorful Belgian esters. White wheat, oat and Belgian artisan malts contribute a moderate body, balanced by a generous amount of Belgian candi sugar.
Stone Imperial Russian Stout (IRS) | Stone Brewing Co. | Escondido, CA
This massive and intensely aromatic beer abounds with notes of chocolate, coffee, black currants, anise and roastiness, and its heavy palate is nothing to be trifled with.
Lawyers, Guns & Money Barley Wine | Crazy Mountain Brewing Co. | Vail Valley, CO
We use an assortment of crystal malts and throw a little Belgian candi into the brew kettle to give a hearty maltiness. Dry hopping with American hops gives this English style barley wine a refreshing American twist.
