Fest Recap: Burning Can Celebrates the “Can” Do Attitude

Share Post

Beer in a can has become a staple in the craft beer community, and Burning Can is an excellent celebration of the over 300 breweries canning American craft beer today.  The main sponsor of Burning Can was Oskar Blues, who started the movement by canning Dales Pale Ale back in 2002. Oskar Blues founder and namesake of Dales Pale Ale, Dale Katechis says about cans, “It made our beer immensely portable for outdoor enjoyment.”.

Not only is aluminum the most recycled material in the world, but it helps protect the beer from damaging light, making the can perfect for outdoor beer festivals such as Burning Can.

Thirty Five breweries from San Francisco to New Orleans poured delicious canned craft beer under the summer sun in beautiful Lyons, Colorado.  The participating breweries were not shy to share some of their most recent creations or fan favorites like the “Hell or High Watermelon” from 21st Amendment brewery in San Francisco.  Beer lovers wandered through the rows of brewers with eager eyes looking for the next refreshment from craft breweries like, Sun King Brewing (Indiana), Great River Brewing (Iowa).

The can made the perfect accessory for craft beer fans to enjoy the various beer tents and outdoor events happening in Bohn Park on the sunny afternoon. “Oskar Blues is striving to make Burning Can a celebration of the can and the inspirations that make canned beer unique,” said Chad Melis, head of marketing at Oskar Blues.  265 pounds of cans were recycled by Green Girl recycling and festival proceeds were donated to American Whitewater, a testament to fresh beer in cans, recyclability, and the cans connection to outdoor passions.
