While small in scale, it is widely reported that craft brewers give a lot back to their local communities and charities. Recently, the Brewers Association, publishers CraftBeer.com, announced that contributed over 70 million dollars in 2014.
This charity-focused sentiment is especially true at Vermont’s Hill Farmstead Brewery, who announced that they will be accepting donations to local charities instead of tips.
“We are all grateful for those of you who think filling your growlers deserves tips,” writes the brewery. “While it is appreciated, it’s unnecessary, so you may have noticed that in lieu of tips, we’ve suggested making a donation to benefit a local charity instead.”
The donations contributed by Hill Farmstead visitors have already gone to support a local food bank, and the brewery plans to spread around the donations to different organizations throughout the year.
“In this way, we can help raise awareness of the needs of our immediate community and foster the same abiding concern and regard that we have for the area with our many guests and friends.”
One small brewery doing their best to support others–now tell me that doesn’t make the beer taste even better. To read more about Hill Farmsteads effort, visit their blog post, “Donations in Lieu of Tips.”
