The Three Dragons of Thanksgiving

Share Post

Pipeworks Brewing Co.‘s (Chicago Ill.) blog is chalk-full of fun and crazy stories. Each of the posts is centered around a beer release, but they tend have a certain flair that showcases the personality of their brewery. Told through creative photography, beer labels and a little bit of photoshop, the brewery gives you the backstory on their latest releases.

Fully Hoperational Battle Station

In “Fully Hoperational Battle Station,” the release of their imperial saison brewed with peaches, honey and Hallerteau Blanc hops, is described in an epic space saga between Space Kwing, an astronaut cat and Hal, the battle stations intelligence system.  The post shows pictures of Space Kwing and his adventures with the Fully Hoperational Battle Station.

Then there is “Pipeworks Cinnamon Beer-D O’s” that is laid out like a cereal box, complete with crossword puzzle.

The Saga of the Three Dragons

My favorite yet is “The Saga Of the Three Dragons (Part 1 of 3).” In this series, Pipeworks explains one of their favorite Thanksgiving traditions of sitting around a fire and telling the “heart-warming tale of the Three Dragons of Thanksgiving.”  A Chicagoan gave his version of this story in cliff-notes style: (Reader tip: read the narrative in a Chicago accent).

A couple two tree guys and dem over dare by dat dare dragon were workin real late and real hard on Thanksgiving tryin to get a couple two tree trees to fall down already. Dey got dare famillies and dare turkey waitin for ’em but dey’re pullin’ overtime and dat. Dey’re tryin’ ta make da best of da dilemma when one uh da guys sez,

“Just get da trees down already.”

Da dragon sez, “Whatuhya dink I am? A dragon?”

Turns out da dragon was a dragon, so he kanocked a couple two tree trees down and baddaboom. Thanksgiving.

Pipeworks took this epic narrative and brewed three different beers to commemorate it:

  • A Couple Two Tree
  • Flavor Memory Response
  • Blueberry Pie Scraper

Out of all of the entertaining posts on the Pipework’s blog, this one is my favorite because it shows the camaraderie between the people of Pipeworks by explaining some of their Thanksgiving traditions together. But it also pokes a little fun at at the Chicagioan telling the story. This is what I love about the craft beer industry. People get to do what they love and have fun doing it. Cheers to that!
