Another American Craft Beer Week (ACBW) has come and gone, but the afterglow of its ideals continues to be recognized. This week, the U.S. Senate adopted a resolution expressing its appreciation toward the goals of ACBW and to commend the small and independent craft breweries of the United States.
The resolution recognized the many contributions of craft brewers to the United States economy including “providing jobs, supporting United States agriculture, improving the balance of trade … and contributing to the local tax base.”
The senate also commended the community involvement of craft through “philanthropy, volunteerism, and sponsorship involvement including parent-teacher associations, Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Crops, hospitals for children, chambers of commerce, humane societies, rescue squads, athletic teams, and disease research.”
The resolution (R.Res.473) was submitted by Sen. Ben Cardin of Maryland, Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, Sen. Patrick Leahy of Vermont, Sen. Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire, Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon, and Sen. Gary Peters of Michigan.
