“Blown Gasket is one of my favorite seasonal releases and It is the perfect beer to enjoy during the fall weather,” said Evan Rouse, Braxton Brewing Company Co-Founder & COO. “The history of how this beer is joined our lineup is a tribute to the people and places that helped pave the way for Braxton Brewing Company.”
Braxton Brewing Company was born out of a garage on Braxton Drive in Union, Kentucky. It’s there where Evan refined his craft and dreamt of creating his own brewery. Along the way, he joined the Northern Kentucky Homebrewers Guild. It’s there where he met Dave Dixon, a member and friend that would eventually become one of Braxton’s original innovation brewers. Dixon introduced Evan to this Robust Porter and the company opened in March of 2015 with a scaled-up version of Blown Gasket as their first dark beer offering.
The Robust Porter immediately received high praise from the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky community. It received a bronze medal at the 2015 and 2016 Commonwealth Cups and was reviewed as a 90 by BeerAdvocate Magazine. Scores of 90 or more are reserved for beers that are deemed “Outstanding” by the BeerAdvocate tasting panel.
To honor Blown Gasket’s homebrewing history, Braxton Brewing Company is partnering with the NKY Homebrewers Guild to release 100 Gasket Kits. These homebrew kits contain the ingredients necessary to create a six gallon batch. The recipients of these Gasket Kits are encouraged to brew their own variant of Blown Gasket and enter the NKY Homebrewers Guild competition where the winner will get to be brewer for a day at Braxton Labs.
“We are extremely excited to partner with Braxton to bring another competition to the homebrewers of the region. The Braxton brewing team has done a fantastic job of bringing a beer that originated as a homebrew, that many of us know and love, to the professional scale,” said Jon Covey, NKY Homebrewers Guild Co-Founder. “It will be exciting for all of us, especially Dave, to taste the brews that come from giving out a box of ingredients with a requisite to innovate and create something more.”
The cans will be available October through December in Northern Kentucky, Cincinnati, Louisville, Lexington, Dayton and Nashville. Blown Gasket has a moderately strong malt character with notes of toffee and chocolate.
