MKE Brewing Co. Welcomes Summer with Increase Wheat

The first official days of summer are just around the corner and Milwaukee Brewing Co is looking forward to hot summer days with the recent release of their next seasonal, Increase Wheat Gooseberry Berliner Weisse. This light and effervescent thirst quencher was first introduced into the MKE Brewing portfolio in 2014 in a limited quantity. The response from the public was tremendous and sold out in a matter of weeks. This year MKE Brewing has extended the Increase Wheat season from June through August and this refreshing Berliner Weisse will be just the ticket to beat the summer heat.

The Berliner Weisse style has gained quite a bit of popularity over the last couple of years along with the interest in sour style beers. A Berliner Weisse is historically a very pale yellow color, slightly cloudy and low on the alcohol scale between 2.8% and 3.4% ABV. Hop bitterness, alcohol character and sweetness are all very low allowing bready wheat flavors and the tart acidity to shine through.

Increase Wheat Gooseberry Berliner Weisse has a light pale yellow color with a beckoning wheat and grain aroma. Goosberries are added to the brew for an added kick of tartness to compliment the wheat and grain base for the beer. A pleasingly refreshing and effervescent carbonation dances across your palate finishing tart, clean and slightly dry. Measuring in at a sessionable 3.1% ABV, Increase Wheat is a definite crowd pleaser for those hot summer days out by the lake or taking in the splendor of a warm summer evening on your favorite patio. MKE Brewing will kick off the new release with a party at their 2nd St. brewery on Thursday, June 25th from 5-8pm which includes a Walker’s Point scavenger hunt and a pint glass. Tickets are $8 and can be purchased at http://bookeo.com/mkebrewtours

Increase Wheat is named after “Wisconsin’s Greatest Scientist”, Increase Lapham. Responsible for surveying and identifying much of the geography that makes the great State of Wisconsin, Increase Lapham was also credited for cataloging a great deal of the flora and fauna including, of course, the gooseberry.

ABOUT MKE BREWING CO. MKE Brewing Co. started as a brewpub, the Milwaukee Ale House, in October 1997 in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward. Founder Jim McCabe took his love for home brewing and his engineering background to design a functional and robust 15 bbl brewpub when Milwaukee was still a lager town. Fast forward 10 years and over 300 innovative beers later to November 2007 when MKE Brewing Co kegged off their first brew at their 2nd St. Brewery located in the trendy Walkers Point neighborhood. The 50 bbl brewing and packaging facility allowed MKE Brewing Co to meet the demand of their ever-popular Ale House brews and start brewing more styles that they always wanted to. A WDNR Green Tier Certified brewery, MKE Brewing Co. prides themselves on flexible and energy saving efforts to reduce their carbon footprint. With initiatives such as the 28 solar hot water panels on the roof, a bio-diesel boiler fueled by fryer oil from local restaurants, clean wastewater conservation, donating spent grain to local urban farm Growing Power and as the first micro-cannery in Wisconsin, MKE Brewing Co is at the forefront of Green Tier conservation efforts. McCabe along with principal partner Jim Hughes have experienced the most productive year in their brief history producing 12,000 bbls in 2014.
