BALTIMORE, MD — The Uncharted Waters series by Heavy Seas Beer will soon welcome back its Imperial Coffee Porter aged in bourbon barrels, Blackbeard’s Breakfast. This limited release will be available from May – June in all 17 states where Heavy Seas beer is distributed.
Blackbeard’s Breakfast is a robust porter with a new world twist. Brewed with Chesapeake Bay Roasting Company’s Dark Sumatra coffee, and then aged in bourbon barrels, this porter is flavorful and complex. “The beer features some unique English malts and has strong notes of caramel with a subtle nut character,” says Heavy Seas Founder, Hugh Sisson. “The bourbon influence supports the sumptuous Sumatra coffee, making for a real treat for coffee and beer connoisseurs alike.”
According to Brewmaster, Christopher Leonard, “Blackbeard’s Breakfast is probably one of the most challenging beers we’ve ever brewed. Its starting gravity of 23.5 Plato is higher than anything we’ve ever attempted at Heavy Seas. We used eight different malts, including seven from the U.K. Amber, Black, Chocolate, two types of Crystal, and Vienna malts comprise almost 40% of the grain bill. This beer possesses layers of flavors. At 10% ABV, with earthy, herbaceous English hops, and everything else going on, this beer is complex, mysterious, and one heck of a delicious brew.”
The product specs are:
Style: Imperial Coffee Porter aged in bourbon barrels
ABV: 10%
IBU: 40
Malts: Pale, Marris Otter, Vienna, Amber, Light Crystal, Dark Crystal Chocolate, Black

“If Blackbeard were around today, there is no doubt in my mind he would start his day with this beer,” says Sisson. “Although at 10% ABV, it would probably make for a very short day!”
