Uinta Brewing Company releases Port O’ Call, a Belgian Style Dark Ale aged in Port barrels imported from Portugal’s Douro Valley.
“The barrel aging program at Uinta has experimented with a variety of barrel types but this is the first time we’ve utilized red wine barrels,” says Lead Brewer in Research & Development, Isaac Winter. Adding further, “We’ve been really excited about this release because of the unique quality and freshness of the barrels. Port is traditionally a dessert wine and we think people will really enjoy the noticeable sweetness and lush fruit characters it contributed to this beer.”
Aged in port barrels for the past six months, the Belgian Style Dark Ale developed a vinous character blended with toffee and caramel malt notes. With a distinctly Belgian nose, Port O’ Call pours a dark copper with a creamy head accenting spicy yeast with hints of clove and banana and has an ABV of 9.4%.
Uinta Brewing Company collaborated with local illustrator Clay Cavender for the bottle’s label design. “There are so many talented artists in our local community and we’re always excited to showcase their talents through our beer – just as we do.” says Lindsay Berk, Uinta Chief Branding Officer. “It’s fun for us to let each artist creatively bring our brand visions to life and Clay did a great job illustrating the essence of this beautiful beer” says Berk.
Port O’ Call will be released in 750ml cork and caged bottles and will be distributed on a limited basis to most of the company’s major markets. Consumers will see the beer appear on store shelves late November and early December, 2015 depending on location.
