SAN ANTONIO, Oct. 7, 2016 – The city’s best culinary contenders will stir up their tastiest one-pot, beer-inspired recipes during the Second Annual Alamo Showdown Cook-Off, on Sunday, Nov. 13, at Alamo Beer Company, 202 Lamar, from 1 to 4 p.m.

The Alamo Showdown Cook-Off, expected to attract hundreds during this fall festival season, is a partnership that includes Alamo Beer Company and the esteemed University of Houston Conrad N. Hilton College–San Antonio, the city’s first and only provider of a Bachelor of Science of Hotel and Restaurant Management. The college is the beneficiary of the event’s proceeds which funds scholarships for qualified students at the San Antonio campus.

“We want everyone to know that UH Hilton College is here in San Antonio and about the amazing work they are doing” said Eugene Simor, founder of Alamo Beer Company, who said his motivations for partnering with the college offers a chance to showcase the unique and relevant educational opportunities UH is offering right here in San Antonio.

The event is being coordinated, planned and executed primarily by UH student managers and volunteers, and aims to bring experiential, hands-on learning opportunities to those preparing for exciting, highly sought after careers in hospitality – the world’s No. 1 employer.

Jennifer Bumgardner and Jordan Steele, student managers for the event, said the months leading to the Alamo Showdown Cook-Off have been a whirlwind of logistics, negotiations and long hours to market the event on a professional level.

“I’m learning that the magnitude of planning for a large-scale event like the Alamo Showdown Cook-Off requires connections in the industry and a great deal of networking,” Steele said. “Being part of Hilton College has connected us to a wide web of hospitality leaders. We are getting to know key players in San Antonio on a one-on-one basis which is key in this industry.”

“Planning for the Cook-Off has really given me a glimpse of what my professional life will be like after college,” Bumgardner said. “I’m also learning about communication, delegation, teamwork and trust.”
