(Medford, Ore.) – Construction is moving forward at the soon-to-be Common Block Brewing Co. in downtown Medford after building permits were approved this week. The permits allow the brewpub to officially dig-in with mechanical, structural, electrical, and plumbing projects, after the City of Medford Building Department signed off all plans on Tuesday.
“We’re ready to jump in,” says Common Block co-owner Alex Amarotico. “The City of Medford has been awesome to work with and communicate with, and now we’re set to do some of the heavy lifting with our brewery plans.”
Some of that heavy lifting involves erecting an overhead steel structure that will serve as the upstairs brewery platform and concrete dining mezzanine. The building team is also excited to begin fashioning the wood-fired pizza oven and indoor/outdoor bar area, with plans to stay true to their original projection of opening later this fall.
“Granted, fall technically lasts until mid-December, so we have a nice, big window to aim for. We’re saying sometime in November/December-ish” says Amarotico.
During the waiting period for the permits, Alex and his partner, Danielle, have been busy organizing the administrative details of the restaurant and brewery as well. They and their team have stayed occupied designing menus, planning seating arrangements, designing shirts and glassware, applying for various other permits and more.
“This waiting period for the building permits hasn’t really seen a whole lot of waiting,” says Danielle. “There’s plenty to discuss and decide ahead of time, and we’re thinking it will all start moving really fast over the next few months.”
