Las Vegas, NV –CraftHaus Brewery produces an annual release named, Jean Claude. This name has caught the attention of the action star, Jean Claude Van Damme’s attorney in Belgium who sent the brewery a cease and desist letter.  Jean Claude, Belgian Golden Strong Ale has been brewed since 2014 and it will now receive a new name.

The beer as originally named, Jean Claude was done so in honor of CraftHaus Brewery’s brewers’ traveling van named, “Jean Claude Damn Van!” The brewers spent a year traveling the United States and visiting breweries along the way. The van was notorious for breaking down, hence the use of “damn” as an expletive. Then, the brewery became a resting place for the beer traveling van and took on a personality of its own.  The beer has received a cult- like following with the anticipation of its once a year release.Beer Styles

“I’m actually flattered that our beer has the attention of Van Damme’s attorney and wish JCVD himself could enjoy a glass of this beautiful beer, says Wyndee Forrest, Co-Owner of CraftHaus Brewery.  I understand his attorney needs to protect his image.” CraftHaus Brewery has complied to all demands put forth by Jean Claude Van Damme’s attorney, including removing the logo from social media.

The beer now bears a new name, “Not That Jean Claude” as a reminder of the van that brought the brewers to the brewery. CraftHaus will brew the annual release again in 2019 with its new name but same beer style. Guests can enjoy “Not That Jean Claude” at CraftHaus Brewery’s taproom and at craft beer establishments in the Las Vegas valley.
