Share Post

CHICAGO, June 4, 2015– The Drinking & Writing Theater continues their newest, ongoing production “VS, A Battle of Art.”

VS is the newest show from the Drinking & Writing Theater, a drag out, beat down, last man standing competition of art. Two teams of local artists will represent a different side of the VS and compete head to head, through 6 rounds, to determine which side reigns. The first show, Beer VS Wine, opened Saturday April 11th, 4pm for a 4 week run at the Drinking & Writing Theater @ Haymarket Pub and Brewery, 737 W. Randolph. This is not a debate. Teams of artists will perform original art, dance, song, monologue, sketch, scene or short video, inspired by one side of the versus and performed on stage for audience interpretation. Lead by The Drinking & Writing Theater founders and Neofuturists alumni Steve Mosqueda and Sean Benjamin, VS will be an ongoing show with new topics and new teams of artists competing against one another. The current show Drinking VS Writing runs till June 13th. Upcoming shows are Green Lantern VS Green Day, July 11th till August 1st, 911 VS 711 August 29th till September 19th then Trick VS Treat October 10th till October 31st. A Short History of the Drinking & Writing Theater

The Drinking & Writing Theater was founded in 2002 after Neo-Futurists Sean Benjamin and Steve Mosqueda had great success with their site-specific show Drinking & Writing. Since then there have been five volumes of Drinking & Writing performed in bars and theaters all over the U.S. and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.  The Drinking & Writing Theater has also spawned The Drinking & Writing Radio Show,

Beerfly Alleyfight, The Drinking & Writing Festival, and the Tied House Film Festival. Sean Benjamin and Steve Mosqueda also created the documentary The Western Avenue Project (a 4 day hike up the entire length of Western Avenue, the longest continuous street in North America, with a pint in every bar).

Recent theater productions include BEER, To Cure A Hangover, The 12 Steps of Christmas, A Beer Carol, God vs. Hall & Oates, Barnstormers, American Variety 1 and 2 (written by Carolyn Shoemaker-Benjamin and Alison Connelly),

The Brewprints part 1: 40 Scenes on Hops, The Earliest Known Photo of Men Drinking Beer, and Brechtoberfest.
