Fieldwork™ Brewing Company Grand Opening Has Arrived: April 24 – 26

Mardi Gras in April dinner and release of four new beers are just two of many culinary delights in which to partake during the celebration

Berkeley, CA – April 15, 2015 – Fieldwork™ Brewing Company, located at 1160 Sixth Street in West Berkeley, will host its Grand Opening Weekend on-site from Friday, April 24th through Sunday, April 26th. After a soft opening in mid-February, the brewery and taproom has already brewed over six hundred barrels of craft beer from its newly commissioned brew house.

Located in a 10,212 square foot building at the corner of Sixth Street and Harrison Street, Fieldwork anchors a block in an area of West Berkeley currently undergoing steady urban revitalization. Fieldwork joins current neighbors Covenant Wines and Makers Workspace, with Urban Adamah soon breaking ground on its educational farm and community center.

“The City of Berkeley has welcomed us with open arms, and we plan to thank its residents by providing the best beer and beer-drinking experience they could possibly imagine,” said Co-founder and Owner Barry Braden.

Fieldwork Brewing Company’s Grand Opening Weekend includes something for everyone.

Friday, April 24th: Ribbon Cutting With Mayor Bates and Beer Releases

Culminating in the ceremonial cutting of the ribbon and opening remarks by the Honorable Tom Bates, Mayor of the City of Berkeley, at 4 pm, the Taproom opens at noon for the release of two new beers that make your mouth water just reading about them:

Eliza- Our take on infusing the character of New Orleans Iced Coffee with a beastly Imperial Milk Stout. Taking all of the ingredients you would find in a cup of iced coffee in New Orleans, we added a complex and nutty single origin coffee from favorite local roaster Catahoula Coffee Co., French Chicory, organic cane sugar, and a hefty amount of milk sugar to give Eliza a thick and creamy texture in line with the drink that inspired it.

Torrential- What you want in a double IPA. It’s big, dry, hugely aromatic, bursting with tropical and fruity hop flavors, and terrifyingly drinkable. A mix of  2-row base malt and a specialty French base malt gives the beer a small amount of malt character without adding any sweetness, or coming off as anything other than a very west coast style double IPA. The hops we chose to throw in the mix are a simple blend of our favorite hops that, each on their own, are hugely dominant in character, but blended together they produce a beautiful marriage of mango, melon, grapefruit, papaya, orange, and jackfruit.

Saturday, April 25th: “Release the Hounds!” and Mardi Gras in April Grand Opening Celebration Dinner

In homage to dogs and best friends everywhere, Owner and Head Brewer Alex Tweet has crafted two ales named after Fieldwork’s resident brewery dogs. The dogs and brews will be available at Fieldwork starting at 11 am. The question to be answered is, are you a Hannah or a Hugo?

HannahHannah, our brewery dog, is the most sentient of guard dogs. Still an active hiker and traveler at the age of 14, Hannah’s namesake is our Biere de Garde, a malty high ABV Belgian-style ale similar to a Saison, meant to age well over time and be durable over distance. Hannah uses a blend of base malts from Germany (Pilsner, Vienna, Munich) to create a nice and rich malt character that complements our Belgian specialty malts providing a nice subtle note of torched dates. To create a unique profile, we use a very small amount of Southern Cross hops, which give small notes of white wine grapes and fresh cut pine to play off the fruity and earthy nature of the yeast.

HugoHugo, our brewery puppy, is a spry little five-month-old named after Hugo Llori,s the captain of Les Bleus, that has energy to no end. His namesake is our French Table Beer, a 4.8% ABV Table Beer, which exclusively uses French Malts, yeast, and hops. French Pilsner malt gives Hugo a nice grainy malt character that shines through this small beer much like your favorite German lager. Hops imported from France put off nice and subtle notes of orange blossom, fresh cut grass, and lemon zest. Finally, the French Saison yeast strain dries the beer out to a degree that makes it incredibly dry, refreshing, and highly crushable; making this beer perfect for a dinner pairing or for drinking all day outside.

Stay for our Grand Opening Mardi Gras in April Dinner Celebration starting at 7 pm. This unique food and craft beer experience is the collaboration of Fieldwork’s Tweet and Chef Mike O’Brien (Mikkeller Bar, Perdition Smokehouse, and The Trappist). The Taproom and Brewery will provide the setting for a five-course, Creole tasting menu prepared by O’Brien and paired with Fieldwork Brewing Co. beers selected by the dynamic duo. Seating is limited to 50 people, and six tickets remained as of this press release. Send an email to info@fieldworkbrewing.com to secure your tickets.

Sunday, April 26th: Doughnuts, Cheese Curds, and Beer… oh, my!

Our friends from Doughnut Dolly will be on hand serving their delicious cream-filled doughnuts made with Fieldwork beers, including Chocolate Milk Brown and Eliza NOLA-style Iced Coffee Imperial Milk Stout, from 11 am to 2 pm.

Our friends from Pugs Leap Cheese of Petaluma will follow-up with a pairing of three of their delicious cheeses with Fieldwork beers from 3 to 6 pm. Cheeses will also be available for purchase.
