Loveland, Colorado July 8 , 2015– It seems hard to believe now but only five years ago Loveland, CO did not have a craft brewery. “We took a risk by opening up a brewery in Loveland when there wasn’t one. But the community supported us. We have been very lucky and appreciate it.” says Vice President/Co-founder Aaron Heaton. “We started with a taproom for 20 people. We had to make chairs out of kegs and bags of malt. Even today we run out of room but luckily we have more chairs”. Fast forward to today and Grimm Brothers is one of the larger breweries in Northern Colorado.
The idea for the brewery was several years in the making when President/Co-founder Don Chapman and Aaron met at the Ft. Collins homebrew club Liquid Poets. They were inspired by the German beer styles and resurrecting lost ancient recipes. The idea for the name came from Don’s wife and brings the stories collected by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm to life in the form of beer, with each being named after or from a part of the stories. From the beginning the guys teamed up with local artist Josh Emrich who has designed many beloved characters and continues to provide the art for the brand today.
It was quickly evident that the brewery would need someone in charge of sales and Co-owner/Beer Evangelist Russell Fruits was up for the challenge. He has helped grow the brewery from local distribution from the back of his pickup to commercial distribution throughout Colorado and now small scale in Nebraska, California, Arizona, Washington, and Oregon. “We are excited for the changing landscape of craft beer. The more educated consumer is seeking out not only new beers but beers that represent well-crafted and very drinkable products. I think we have a great opportunity to challenge the new consumer and solidify craft beer as their staple beverage.”
“It is amazing how quickly five years has come. But we still have a lot of work ahead of us” says Don Chapman.
The brewery will celebrate their five year anniversary on Saturday July 25th from noon until 9 PM at their taproom and parking lot located at 623 Denver Ave. The event is free to attend and will feature special beer releases throughout the day, live music by Cable Ten, The Waido Experience, Taggart & Silas, and Leaded, burgers and brats by Big Thompson Kiwanis Club, mini golf and Hammerschlagen, and a chance to win free beer for a year.
