ALTON, IL – The Old Bakery Beer Company plans to bring high quality local food and beer to downtown Alton. The brewery and restaurant will be located at 400 Landmarks Boulevard, which has been home to at least 3 bakeries over the last 100 years.
Old Bakery Beer will offer four year-round beers, including a Wheat IPA, Rye Pale Ale, Mild Brown Ale, and a Pilsner-style Beer, as well as several rotating seasonals and local guest taps. Head Brewer James Rogalsky brings several years of homebrewing experience, as well as professional brewing experience as an assistant brewer at Urban Chestnut Brewing Company in St. Louis, MO. He is also a graduate of the American Brewers Guild’s Intensive Brewing Science & Engineering course. Old Bakery Beer will brew on a 15 barrel brewing system (465 gallons), with potential to brew up to 10,000 barrels of beer per year.
The menu will consist primarily of soups, salads, and sandwiches prepared with ingredients within a 400-mile radius to fall within the USDA guidelines for “local food”. Restaurant Manager Lauren Pattan has over 8 years of food service experience, having held almost every job in the industry, from busser to general manager. Lauren also holds a Masters degree in Environmental Management, which will help her ensure that Old Bakery Beer does its part to remain an environmentally sustainable business.
The Alton City Council referred the special use permit petition for Old Bakery Beer to the City Plan Commission on March 12, 2014.
