A year that has seen dramatic growth for Winston-Salem’s Foothills Brewing will be ending on a high note.
Foothills has announced plans to expand the availability of their core brands to Washington D.C., as well as markets in northern Virginia, including the Richmond and Norfolk metropolitan areas. This follows a recent retail expansion into South Carolina, which came on the heels of a 72% capacity increase earlier in 2013.
Partnership deals have been reached with several area distributors, including Chesbay and Premium, both subsidiaries of Reyes Holdings.
“We’re very excited about this latest edition of Foothills growth,” said Jamie Bartholomaus, president and brewmaster of Foothills Brewing. “Virginia has over 50 breweries, so there’s plenty of enthusiasm for craft beer in the state. We’re looking forward to having Hoppyum IPA, Torch Pilsner, and People’s Porter available to beer drinkers across Virginia and the DC area.”
That excitement is mirrored by Foothills’ new distribution partners:
Kathy Wylie, Marketing Manager, Chesbay Distributing: “We’re thrilled about the addition of Foothills Brewing to our current portfolio. We appreciate their hard work and dedication in producing a high quality brand, and are looking forward to sharing that passion with our retailers. Foothills is a long awaited and welcome addition to the Hampton Roads market.”
Jessica Muskey, VP of Marketing, Premium Distributors: “Foothills Brewing’s dedication to quality and their history of producing well-respected brews are two big reasons we’re excited to be partnering with them in the DC Metro area. They have also been one of the most requested brands from retailers in our market. They’re the first North Carolina-based brewery we’ll be distributing and will fit nicely into our portfolio! ”

In December 2011 Foothills expanded their brewing operations from their popular brewpub in downtown Winston-Salem to a 50,000 square-foot facility in southern Winston-Salem, allowing for increased development of six-pack and 22-oz. bottle production. 2013 has seen the addition of four 200 BBL fermenting tanks, increasing potential brewing capacity to approximately 40,000 barrels annually.
