FORT WORTH, TEXAS – Rahr & Sons Brewing Co., which has made charitable giving a cornerstone of its business since opening in 2004, has partnered with charity: water to help bring clean and safe drinking water to people in developing parts of the world. Every Wednesday beginning March 29, Rahr & Sons will donate $1 from every mid-week tasting admission to the nonprofit organization; for every $10,000 raised, charity: water will be able to build a well to support the needs of hundreds of people.
The partnership between Rahr & Sons and charity: water was a natural fit because beer is actually 95 percent water and the brewery is a proponent of conservation, using a heat exchange system that transfers heat from one brew process to the next to save water. Rahr & Sons will be involved in selecting the regions where the wells it supports will be constructed. To date, charity: water has built more than 20,000 wells in 24 countries, supplying clean drinking water for 6.3 million people.
To launch its new charitable partnership, Rahr & Sons will host an event on World Water Day, March 22 from 5-8 p.m. With a goal to raise $10,000 in its first week, Rahr & Sons will donate $5 from each $10 ticket sale, as well as 100 percent of funds raised from a silent auction featuring numerous prizes from local businesses. All event attendees will receive three beer tastings & a commemorative pint glass and enjoy live music from electronic band Ishi. Those unable to attend are welcomed to donate directly via my.charitywater.org/rahr-brewing/rahr-sons-charity-water-well-project.
“Charity: water is an important organization that has a long-term outlook to make sure water is plentiful for years to come in areas that need it most,” said Craig Mycoskie, Rahr & Sons’ vice president of operations. “Rahr & Sons is excited to expand our impact and help bring life’s most basic need to those who desperately need it.”
In the past 13 years, owners Fritz & Erin Rahr and their team have given over 125 nonprofits exposure and fundraising opportunities through their charity of the week initiative at the brewery every Saturday; raised more than $150,000 for multiple local nonprofits through the annual Oktoberfest 5K; and donated a percentage of sales from The Fort Worth beer to the USS Fort Worth Support Committee, which provides moral support and appreciation for the naval ship’s crew and families.
