Meet the Brewer Event at Tap and Handle to Feature Brock Wagner and Saint Arnold Icon Red
FORT COLLINS, COLO., February 7, 2014 –Saint Arnold Brewing Co. (www.saintarnold.com) Founder/Brewer Brock Wagner will roll into Fort Collins, Colo. next week for a ‘Meet the Brewer’ evening with craft beer fans. He will arrive 6 p.m. on Tuesday, February 11th in the Saint Arnold art car, a Subaru painted by Houston graffiti artist GONZO247. Saint Arnold, the oldest craft brewery in Texas, expanded into Colorado’s Front Range last year.
The event at Tap and Handle will feature Santo, a black Kölsch that won the Bronze Medal at the 2012 World Beer Cup in the American-Style Dark Lager category; Saint Arnold Endevour, a double IPA that won the Silver Medal at the 2012 World Beer Cup in the Imperial India Pale Ale category and a special tapping of the current offering of the Saint Arnold Icon series, Icon Red, which is a Bohemian Pils.
Saint Arnold Icon Red, which was released in November, was inspired by hop buying trips to the Czech Republic. It incorporated a traditional method for heating the mash by removing a portion of the mash, boiling it – which causes caramelization that deepens the beer’s color and lowers the fermentability of the sugars, resulting in a slightly richer bodied beer – and then mixing it back in. Even with its impressive malt bill, Icon Red is a refreshing beer that starts with a distinctive Saaz hop nose, followed by a floral, spicy and earthy hop flavor that closes with a focused bitter finish.
“After many years of enjoying the beers and the people of the Colorado craft brewing community, it is fun to be a part of it even if it’s in a small way,” said Wagner. “I love nothing more than talking about beer and I imagine that’s what I’ll be doing Tuesday in Fort Collins.”
Currently in its 20th year, Saint Arnold Brewing is in the process of transforming its operation into a four-vessel brewhouse. The original three-barrel system was imported from Klosterbrauerei Raitenhaslach, a Bavarian monastery. The expansion, which also includes a faster, higher-capacity grain mill, is expected to accommodate production needs for the foreseeable future, increasing the brewery’s annual capacity from 90,000 barrels to 240,000 barrels.
Tap and Handle is located at 307 South College Avenue in Fort Collins. The Meet the Brewer event is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, February 11, 2014.
