Pints for Prostates Initiative Aims to Start Conversations About Prostate Cancer during the Holidays

HOUSTON, December 14, 2015 – Saint Arnold Brewing Co. (www.saintarnold.com), the oldest craft brewery in Texas, is helping Pints for Prostates launch a new initiative called Crowns for a Cure. When 12-ounce bottles of Saint Arnold Winter Stout begin appearing later this month, craft beer fans will notice that some bottle caps feature the Pints for Prostates logo. Under the cap is the message, “Reaching men through the universal language of beer. www.pintsforprostates.org.”

The Crowns for a Cure program is designed to start conversations when guys get together to catch a game or during holiday celebrations.

“The Texas craft brewing community just lost one of its original members to prostate cancer, illustrating the importance and the urgency of this cause,” said Saint Arnold Founder/Brewer Brock Wagner. “Beer has a way of getting people talking, and sometimes those conversations can have a big positive impact. That’s what’s great about Crowns for a Cure.”

Saint Arnold is mixing in 30,000 of the special crowns for bottling runs of Saint Arnold Winter Stout, a creamy, full bodied sweet stout with subtle chocolate and coffee flavors and a well balanced soft roastiness.

“We are excited to be partnering with Saint Arnold in Texas and 13 other breweries across the country on this first of its kind program that will put a reminder in the hands of men to take charge of their health,” said Rick Lyke, a prostate cancer survivor who started Pints for Prostates in 2008 after successful treatment for the disease. “We hope these bottle caps will start thousands of conversations and encourage guys to talk with their doctors about scheduling prostate cancer screenings.”

Saint Arnold Winter Stout will begin appearing on store shelves and in restaurants in the coming weeks as supplies of Saint Arnold Christmas Ale run out.

Saint Arnold Winter Stout has been judged among the best in the Sweet Stout category at the World Beer Cup (Silver Medal) and at the Great American Beer Festival (Silver Medal). The recipe, originally inspired by a winning entry in the Big Batch Brew Bash homebrew competition 18 years ago, features four different types of malted barley, including a large portion of specialty malts that give Saint Arnold Winter Stout such a rich body and big mouthfeel in addition to its roasty flavor.
