Terrapin Beer Co. celebrated their 13th birthday with a bang on Saturday, April 11 at the brewery in Athens, GA. The weather was perfect, the beer was flowing, and the atmosphere tingling with merriment.
Above and beyond being a celebration of Terrapin’s continued success, the annual Anniversary Carnival is a major fundraiser for Athens nonprofit organization Community Connection of Northeast Georgia. Community Connection is an organization that bridges the gap between those who need a service and those who provide it; they work to create a network of aid providers and increase accessibility for those seeking aid while also providing volunteer opportunities for members of our community. Five dollars from each Anniversary Carnival glass sale was donated to Community Connection, and donation collection jars placed throughout the midway gathered additional funds. With 1,003 glasses sold, Terrapin’s Anniversary Carnival netted Community Connection over $6,000 in total.
Terrapin fans gathered in the yard to enjoy the afternoon with a plethora of Terrapin beers; all the current favorites were joined by a draft trailers offering special barrel-aged selections, a few seasonal rarities pulled from the cellar, and 13 casks themed after the popular television show Supernatural. Atlanta group Gurufish kept the crowd grooving with their funk- and soul-inspired original tunes. The carnival midway was abuzz with activites; guests could pick up a bag of freshly popped popcorn as a snack, visit Double Dutch Press to screen print their own commemorative poster created by local artist Kim Deakins, test their aim at the shooting gallery, get their photo turned into a souvenir magnet by Mag-nificent Photo Magnets, or fire off some fastballs at the infamous beer dunk tank.
All in all, Terrapin’s 13 Anniversary Carnival was a huge success. Their large annual fall event, the Hop Harvest Festival, will take place on Saturday, October 24, at the brewery in Athens.
