Third Annual Charleston Beer Week Set for September

The third annual Charleston Beer Week will be held from September 13th through September 19th at venues throughout the greater Charleston area.

The third installment of Charleston Beer Week will once again celebrate the area’s burgeoning craft beer scene. The area now boasts nine production breweries and as many in planning, plus three brewpubs and a wide variety of craft beer-centric bars, restaurants, and retail stores.

Craft beer’s accelerating growth in Charleston is part of a statewide and national trend. According to the South Carolina Brewers’ Guild, 2013’s “Pint Law,” allowing breweries to serve up to 48 ounces of beer on-site, resulted in a $13.7 million impact on the state’s economy. The passage of the Stone Law last summer gives brewery tasting rooms free rein to serve beer on-premise with licensed food service. For folks in the industry and fans of craft beer, there is much to celebrate.

Lead organizers Chrys Rynearson and Timmons Pettigrew from CHSBeer.org, and Caleb Taylor from Summerville’s Homegrown Brewhouse, are once again holding the series of events the week following Labor Day. As it did in 2014, Charleston Beer Week coincides with Charleston Restaurant Week and Charleston Watersports Fest, allowing visitors and residents with varied interests to taste more than just beer.

42 events are in planning and event announcements are ongoing. Planned events are varied and unique, with many focusing on locally brewed beer, while others focus on complementing craft beer with everything from brunch, to sushi, to kickball, to ghost tours. Multiple events will also benefit various charities. The week will culminate with a beer festival in Summerville featuring exclusively sour and funky, naturally-fermented cask beer from South Carolina breweries.

Events will be announced via the Charleston Beer Week website and social media channels. Inquiries about sponsorship slots and event registrations can also be made through the website.

Charleston Beer Week events will be held throughout Charleston, Mount Pleasant, North Charleston, and Summerville. Visit www.charlestonbeerweek.com for event and sponsorship information.
