Driftwood, TX – Vista Brewing broke ground on a 21 acre destination brewery just southwest of Austin and at the gateway to the Central Texas Wine Trail. The initial phase of the destination, set to open in early 2018, nestles a tasting room and brewery production building into the 657 large oaks and elms on the property. Additional amenities arriving in future phases include an expanded farm-to-table restaurant, event center and eco-friendly tiny home lodging. An 18 hive apiary is already installed, and a farm and orchard are in planning.
Vista Brewing is working with prominent brewery architect OPA Design Studio, civil engineering firm LandDev Consulting, and award-winning commercial contractor rand* Construction to design and build the “modern ranch” style buildings. The buildings were meticulously designed to fit into the canopies of the centuries-old oak trees. The light-filled tasting room will feature floor to ceiling windows designed by local artisans KKDW to maximize views and open air connection with the outdoors. Along with world class brews and views, the tasting room will include a retail area and private event space.
Acres of shaded beer garden will be encircled by a 19th century stacked stone wall built by the first farmers who worked the land after it was granted to heroic Texan William B. Travis in 1835. The project will preserve the historic wall and impact only 15 of the site’s beautiful trees.
Guests will enjoy two genres of beer: low alcohol, dry, drinkable “beer garden beer,” and more complex, wine-like beers which will age in barrels from wineries and distilleries in the Texas Wine Trail ecosystem. Both the onsite food concept and the brewery will utilize fruits, vegetables and herbs grown at the Vista farm or foraged on the property, as well as honey from the apiary.
