“Austinites, Beer Enthusiasts, and the Socially Conscious Suit Up to Drink a Beer and Save a Gorilla”
In preparation for the 5th Annual Austin Gorilla Run, Thirsty Planet Brewing Co. and the Mountain Gorilla Conservation Fund team up to host the 2015 Gorilla Pub Crawl. Participants will make their way down Rainey street to raise awareness for the 5K Gorilla Run and its benefiting charity, the Mountain Gorilla Conservation Fund.
AUSTIN, TEXAS- JANUARY 12th, 2015- The 5th Annual Austin Gorilla Run is still weeks away, but supporters are encouraged to join in celebration at the Gorilla Pub Crawl that is free to enter and open to the public, commencing at Banger’s Sausage House and Beer Garden on Saturday, January 24th at 4pm. Attendees will venture to Icenhauer’s, Javelina Bar, Craft Pride, and Container Bar to enjoy cold beer and receive a free Silverback Pale Ale pint glass and t-shirt as a thank you for their support.
The Mountain Gorilla Conservation Fund (MGCF) is a Denver based organization that has been dedicated to the conservation and protection of the highly endangered Mountain Gorillas of Africa for the past 3o years. MGCF’s relationship with the Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda has allowed the teaching of wildlife medicine to the local community, fostering qualified park rangers and wildlife veterinarians. Proceeds from the Gorilla Run will directly fund the recently opened Ruth Keesling Wildlife Health and Research Center, designed to further education and research on wildlife infectious diseases.
Thirsty Planet Brewing Co. has been instrumental in supporting the Mountain Gorilla Conservation Fund by sponsoring the Gorilla Pub Crawl, Austin Gorilla Run, and brewing up their seasonal Silverback Pale Ale (6.2% ABV, 36 IBU) to raise funds for the cause. Thirsty Planet’s special Silverback recipe is made with an addition of Grains of Paradise, an African spice that imparts a citrusy, pepper-like quality to the beer. The spice is a vital part of the Mountain Gorilla diet and aids in reducing heart disease in these endangered apes.
