VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (Aug. 5, 2014) Georgia-based SweetWater Brewing Company, has landed the rights of exclusive craft beer of the 2014 Coastal Edge East Coast Surfing Championships presented by Vans.
“How appropriate is it that in August the state of Virginia – in addition to celebrating the world’s second-oldest surfing contest—is also observing “Craft Beer Month,” said Charlie Pitts, this year’s Coastal Edge ECSC event chairman. “There is absolutely no better place in the state to relax with a craft beer than on the beach here at CE-ECSC.”
Rob Reynolds, Southeast Virginia market manager with SweetWater Brewing Company, said he is looking forward to meeting craft beer fans at the annual end-of-summer beach sports festival. “Partnering with the CE-ECSC was an easy fit as this active outdoors event aligns well with culture of our brand,” said Reynolds. “Folks can appreciate what pro surfers can do with their craft on the waves, and we hope they’ll appreciate whetting their whistles with our tasty craft brews in the sand.”
Five varieties of SweetWater’s beers will be available on draft on the beach during the event, which runs from Aug. 17 to 24 at the Virginia Beach oceanfront. SweetWater will be pouring their flagship 420 Extra Pale Ale, IPA, Waterkeeper Hefeweizen (a summer seasonal), Take Two Pils (a German-style pilsner), and SweetWater Blue (a wheat beer with a hint of blueberries).
Responsible adults may partake of alcoholic beverages in specially designated areas in various parts of the resort beach occupied by CE-ECSC activities. These areas include: adjacent to the Main Stage at 5th Street, in designated hospitality areas, and overlooking the pro volleyball area; beer is permitted to be enjoyed by consumers over 21 years of age on the beach between 4th and 6th Street.
Proper identification is required and all consumers are reminded to enjoy responsibly.

A multi-sport and entertainment festival, the Coastal Edge East Coast Surfing Championships presented by Vans is held each year in Virginia Beach, Va. Professional and amateur surfing is the core of the event and involves hundreds of surfers competing in 35 age and skill divisions.
