Funkwerks Wins Award at Great American Beer Festival

FORT COLLINS, CO (April 15, 2014) – Funkwerks, the award-winning Saison-focused brewery in Fort Collins, Colorado was awarded a Gold medal in the 2014 Great American Beer Festival® (GABF), the largest national beer competition that evaluates and recognizes the most outstanding brewers and their beers produced in the United States.

Funkwerks was recognized in the Belgian-Style Fruit Ale beer-style category, for their Raspberry Provincial, a Belgian-Style Berliner Weisse ale with a heavy dose of raspberries. A sessionable fruit beer at 4.2% alcohol by volume that is delightfully tart, with a citrusy raspberry aroma and a dry, tart finish.“Raspberry Provincial appeals to a range of beer drinkers because it maintains a bright fruit profile without being overly sour or cloyingly sweet. The 2014 GABF competition winners were selected by an international panel of 222 expert judges from the record number of 5,507 entries, plus 89 Pro-Am entries, received from 1,309 U.S. breweries. Funkwerks was the only brewery from Fort Collins, CO to win an award this year at GABF. “The competition was fierce; it’s an honor to be awarded a medal from one of the most recognized beer competitions in the U.S.,” Brad Lincoln, Funkwerks Co-Founder/Owner. Raspberry Provincial is brewed during the summer season and available in bars, restaurants and liquor stores across Colorado, Nebraska, and Arizona. The Funkwerks Story: In 2007 Gordon Schuck’s recipe design and brewing skills resulted in a gold medal-winning Saison at the National Homebrew Competition. Brad Lincoln rst experienced craft beer while working as an accountant in Portland, OR. The two met during the winter of 2009 while attending the Siebel Institute and studying brewing science. After being immersed in beer for the better part of ve months, the two graduated and shared a desire to open a brewery. This resulted in the Saison-focused brewery that is now Funkwerks, opening December 9, 2010. Funkwerks’ two agship beers, Saison and Tropic King, are produced year round. Also brewed annually are three seasonals, including the 2014 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) gold medal winner, Raspberry Provincial, a number of small experimental batches and select barrel-aged releases. Funkwerks’ flagship Saison was awarded a gold medal at the 2012 GABF and a silver medal in 2011. Deceit, a Belgian-Style golden strong ale, was also awarded a gold medal at the GABF in 2012 and a silver medal at the 2014 World Cup of Beer® in the Belgian-Style Pale Strong Ale category. In addition to receiving two gold medals in 2012, the GABF named Funkwerks the 2012 Small Brewing Company of the Year. Funkwerks is located at 1900 East Lincoln Avenue in Fort Collins, Colorado. The tasting room with a spacious outdoor, dog-friendly patio- is open 7 days a week: Sunday 11am-8pm; Monday through Thursday 12pm-8pm; Friday 12pm-9pm; and Saturday 11am-9pm.
